I’ve been where your leaders are—and I’ve seen what happens when they don’t have the tools to lead themselves.
Leading others is hard, especially when you haven’t learned to lead yourself. Early in my career, I thought leadership meant proving I was the smartest person in the room. But the harder I pushed, the more things unraveled. It wasn’t until a mentor told me I was like a shaken soda can—ready to explode when things didn’t go my way—that I realized real change had to start with me.
When leaders don’t learn this early, the pressure doesn’t disappear—it moves up the organization.
Learning to lead myself changed everything. It helped me show up as a leader people wanted to follow because they trusted me, not because they had to. And it stopped unnecessary problems from landing above me.
That’s why I believe self-leadership is the foundation for all great leadership. When you truly understand yourself—your strengths, blind spots, and triggers—you can stop reacting and lead with intention. Staying calm under pressure gives others permission to do the same. I’ve spent decades teaching this because I’ve seen the difference it makes. Not just for individual leaders—but for the executives and organizations who depend on them.
Self-leadership isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity. It’s how you create a culture where people rise to the challenge together—and it’s the kind of leadership I’m honored to help you build.
I personally watched John absolutely captivate a room full of attendees with his humorous and poignant stories while delivering nugget after nugget of life changing principles. I was quoting him the following day because what he said was so memorable and strong!
